Chapter
X. Sarah Rightmire and Moses Thompson
(Sarah2 Rightmire, James1, Sr.)
(2) Sarah Rightmire was the fifth child of Elizabeth and
James Rightmire, Sr. She was probably born in 1810 in Ohio, although this
was deduced indirectly from census data rather than from any direct source.
She probably was the first child born after James, Sr. and Elizabeth moved
to Ohio.
A marriage record book for Knox County shows that Moses
Thompson married Sarah Rightmire on April 5, 1832. They were married
by John Welker, Justice of the Peace.
A cemetery book shows Moses Thompson is buried in Hollister
Cemetery, Knox Co., Ohio, near Millwood, Union Twp. Recently, Carol J.
White found Hollister Cemetery and was able to take a picture of Moses
Thompson's grave. A copy of this picture is shown on the next page. The
picture is barely readable, but in the original picture, one can make
out the following:
MOSES
THOMPSON
DIED
(Not readable)
Moses died February 25, 1845 at the age 50 years old. Moses, therefore
would have been born in about 1795. Sarah was widowed by 1845, at the
age of 30. In the 1850 census for Coshocton Co., Ohio, Sarah Thompson,
was living with John and Mahala Rightmire Trott. In the 1860 Hardin Co.,
Ohio, census, Sarah Thompson, age 50, born Virginia, is living with Mahala
Rightmire Trott (as head of household) in the immediate vicinity of Benjamin
Rightmire.
A picture of Moses Thompson's gravestone is shown on the
next page.
