7. James Edward Rightmire and Hazel Marie Herbold

(4) James Edward Rightmire was born in Vandalia, Illinois on October 25, 1884. He married Hazel Marie Herbold, the daughter of Alfa Herbold and Eva Dudley, on June 4, 1919 in Omaha, Nebraska. There story is told in Section 7. Hazel was born February 25, 1896 in Kansas City, Kansas. James and Hazel are the grandparents of James E. Rightmire, the person providing most of this information and pictures.
James died December 18, 1936 at his daughter's home in Kansas City, Missouri. The following funeral notice appeared in the Kansas City Star:
"RIGHTMIRE - James Edward Rightmire, 61 years old, a resident of Kansas City virtually all his life, died today, at his home, 6123 Olive Street. He was a switchman for the Alton-Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. He leaves a daughter, Miss Mandana Rightmire and two sons, James Rightmire and Harry Rightmire, all of the home; five sisters, Mrs. F. E. Hermanson, of the home; Mrs. Aaron Smith and Mrs. R. W. Kane, both of 32 North Valley Street, Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Joseph Ostertag, 1412 North Thirty Eight, and Mrs. Bone, 1916 Grandview Boulevard, both of Kansas City, Kansas; three brothers, John Rightmire and Jesse Rightmire, both of 1255 Central Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas; and Jerry Rightmire, Palataka, Fla."
Also of interest is James Edward's last will and testament:
"LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JAMES E. RIGHTMIRE"
"I, James E. Rightmire, at this time residing at Kansas City, in the County of Wyandotte, State of Kansas, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament:"
"First, I direct that all my just debts, including funeral expenses, be paid by my executor."
"Second, I give, bequeath and devise to my son, Harry Allen Rightmire, all of my personal property and all real property which I may Hereinafter acquire, all of which I am seized at the time of my decease."
Third, I appoint my brother, Jessie Rightmire, sole executor of this, my last will and testament, and direct that he be not required to give bond for the execution of the same, and request the court admitting the will to probate grant letters testamentary without bond.
Witness my hand, at Kansas City, Kansas this __ day of October, 1935.

After James died, I believe Hazel married Chris P. Johnson. Hazel died September 30, 1993. The following funeral notice appeared in the Kansas City Star:
"Mrs. Johnson was born in Kansas City, Kansas and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. A Charter Member of the Sherman Chapter of the Eastern Star. The Order of the White Shrine #4, Topeka Council #1 A.T.R."
"She is survived by 2 sons, J. L. Rightmire of Kansas City, KS, Harry A. Rightmire of Kansas City, KS, a daughter, Mandana Greene of St. Louis, Mo, 9 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Granddaughter."

James and Hazel had three children:
(5) James Louie Rightmire, born December 19, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Ana Bel Ramig on November 14, 1943 in Olathe, Kansas. Their story is told in Section 11.
