Section 6. Nellie B. Rightmire and Aaron F. Smith

(4) Nellie B. Rightmire was born in Vandalia, Illinois on November 23, 1881. She married Aaron F. Smith on May 7, 1902 in Kansas City, Kansas. Aaron was born in Missouri on April 14, 1879 and died in Kansas City, Kansas on February 27, 1943. Nellie died in Shawnee Mission, Kansas on July 23, 1969.

The funeral notice for Nellie appeared in the Kansas City Times:

"MRS. NELLIE B. SMITH"

Mrs. Nellie B. Smith, 87, of 922 Linwood, died yesterday at Shawnee Mission hospital. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Marks Methodist Church. She was member of Hyacinth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen Auxiliary and Sunshine Club. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Cliffie Ostertag, 3003 East Sixty-Third Terrace, Gladston; two granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren."

Aaron Smith funeral notice had appeared in the Kansas City Star:

'THE AARON SMITH RITES'

"Funeral Services Will Be Held at 3 o'clock Monday"

"Funeral services for Aaron Smith, 63 years old, Kansas City, Kansas, fireman who died yesterday at the Bethany Hospital, will be held at 3 o'clock Monday at the Eads Chapel in Kansas City, Kansas. His home was at 253 North Seventeenth Street, Kansas City, Kansas."

"Mr. Smith was a member of the Wyandotte Lodge. A.F. and A.M. of the Caswell Consistory of the Scottish Rite, and of the Hyacinth Chapter of the Easter Star and of the Toltec Rite at Topeka. He belonged also to the A. O. U. W. and the Kansas City, Kansas, Firemen's Relief Association."

"He leaves his wife, Mrs. Nellie Smith, of the home; a son, Roy E. Smith and two grandchildren, Bonnie Lee Smith, and Raylene Smith, all of 6370 West Seventy-Ninth Street, Johnson County, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Rightmire, 1255 Central Avenue, and Mrs. Addie Gossage, 1230 Central Avenue, both of Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Leona Danley, Los Angeles and a brother, W. A. Smith, 1126 Haskel Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas"

Nellie and Aaron Smith are buried together in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. A picture of their gravestone is shown on the next page.

Nellie and Aaron had two children:

(5) Roy E. Smith was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 23, 1903. He married Charlene O. Smith (maiden name unknown). Charlene was born July 16, 1908. Roy died in 1958 and Charlene in 1980. They are buried together in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. A picture of their gravestone is shown below.

Roy and Charlene had three children:

(6) Margaret A. Smith, born May 8,1920, in Kansas. Margaret died the same day, May 9,1920, in Kansas City , Kansas. She is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. Below is a picture of her gravestone.
